Basic Hebrew

The purpose of this section is to get you started in Hebrew. The 100 Basic Hebrew Phrases give you an idea what Hebrew sounds like and are common phrases you'll hear or might want to say while in Israel. The 500 Basic Hebrew Words are a source of common vocabulary words that you'll need in the beginning of your Hebrew-learning journey. Finally, the 100 Basic Hebrew Verbs round out your vocabulary so that you can express yourself more fully.

Some will argue that you shouldn't learn words without context. I generally agree, except in the very beginning stages. It IS more useful to learn vocabulary in context from sentences, but in the beginning you don't know ANY Hebrew words. Therefore, learning from sentences, at first, can be difficult and frustrating. In the beginning, learning words individually is useful to build your initial word bank and also learn proper pronunciation. After this early Hebrew-learning stage, however, you should move on to full sentences.
